Sorana Carstea advances in US Open

Sorana Carstea was Romania’s sole representative to go beyond the first round after defeating Japan’s Ayumi Morita, 6-1, 6-3. Sorana will next play against Stephanie Dubouis who is 113th in the WTA standings.

In the doubles event Pavel/Tecau qualified for the second round after defeating Nicolas Mahit/Paul-Henri Mathieu, score 6-3, 6-4. In the second round the Romanian pair will play against the winners of the game pitting Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan (US) against Jose Acasuso and Martin Vassallo Arguello (Argentina).

Andrei Pavel will enter the singles event on Wednesday when he will play against America’s Robby Ginepri. Monica Niculescu and Victor Crivoi complete the list of Romanian tennis players that were prematurely eliminated from the US Open, joining Victor Hanescu, Raluca Olaru, Edina Gallovits and Alexandra Dulgheru.
