President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc yesterday traveled to Brussels, to attend an informal meeting of EU heads of state and governments. Before leaving, President Basescu said in a press statement on Henri Coanda Airport that the meeting would first of all focus on economic recovery plans and necessary measures to get through the crisis. Other issues on the agenda include the reform of international financial institutions and finding a common approach on energy security and fighting climate change, Basescu said. The head of state left for Brussels together with Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea and was to be joined by Emil Boc in Brussels, as the prime minister was flying to Belgium from Italy. The economic recovery plans to be discussed by EU leaders are to be supported during the G20 summit in Pittsburgh later this month.
