Eurobarometer: Romanians think highly about EU

Romanians have a good image about the EU, they are optimistic about its future and think that the affiliation of Romania to the EU is a positive thing, but are not very sure that the “voice” of their country counts within the Union, according to the survey Eurobarometer 71 launched on Friday in Romania, in the presence of the Commissioner for multilingualism, Leonard Orban. Thus, 62 per cent of the Romanians aged 15 and over have a good image about the EU, 67 per cent are optimistic about the future of the Union, 66 per cent believe that the participation of Romania to EU is a good thing, and 63 per cent believe that Romania can benefit from the affiliation to the Union. For the Romanians, EU means chiefly freedom to travel, study and work in the Union (47 per cent), democracy (29 per cent), peace (28 per cent), the Euro currency (27 per cent) and social protection (17 per cent). However, the survey shows a diminution of the significance that the Romanians grant to the attributes related to the economic issues.

Tourism Ministry checked by PM Control Squad

Premier’s Control Squad has initiated the procedures for the beginning of an investigation at the Tourism Ministry, which would verify also the publicity and acquisition contracts concluded by the institution lately, Mediafax informs. The control action was approved by Premier Emil Boc further to a request formulated in this respect by tourism minister Elena Udrea. Premier declared on Friday that the verifications initiated by his Control Squad at the Ministry of Tourism are part of a legal and institutional procedure.
