FM Cristian Diaconescu yesterday left for New York to attend the 64th UN General Assembly meeting on September 22-25, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry. The meeting will focus on some of the most poignant current problems, including global warming and the economic crisis. “The UN and the multilateral system are the only ones that can have a decisive and full approach to the complex problems that mankind is facing,” Diaconescu said before leaving. He said Romania’s delegation will plead for a stronger UN and for necessary measures so that the organization is able to respond to 21st century needs.
