Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu has met with the US Government special representative on energy matters, J. P. Morningstar, during the 64th session of the UN General Assembly, on Wednesday. The two officials mainly talked about energy matters both from the perspective of the Romanian-American relations and by virtue of Romania’s EU membership, Agerpres reports. Diaconescu and J. P. Morningstar stressed the importance of the Nabucco project, the co-operation with Turkey and with Azerbaijan, and on the co-operation in the field seen from a European point of view. The officials also emphasised Romania and the US’s interest in the Nabucco project being materialised, with the American side highlighting the important role Romania would be playing in the project given its position along the southern corridor.
Diaconescu assured the President of the 64th UN General Assembly session, Libyan Ambassador Abdussalam Treki, of Romania’s unconditional support in carrying out his extremely difficult mandate especially with a view to deepening UN’s institutional and managerial reforms.
