Predoiu proposes Kovesi for a second term as Prosecutor General

Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu has signed the proposal on keeping Laura Codruta Kovesi as Prosecutor General of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, which was expected by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) yesterday.

In keeping with the procedure, the prosecutor general is proposed by the minister of justice with the opinion of the Superior Council of Magistracy and appointed by the president of the country, Mediafax informs. Under the law, the prosecutor general is appointed for a term of three years, which may be extended only once. CSM is to discuss the proposal made by the Ministry of Justice in its plenary session today, meaning that Kovesi may be reconfirmed in her position before the presidential election.
