Ionesco show performed by French company to open FNT

The performance “La cantatrice chauve” by Eugene Ionescu, a production of the French company “Les Intempestifs,” directed by Jean Luc Lagarce, opens the 2009 edition of the National Theater Festival from Bucharest (October 31 – November 8), marking 100 years since the birth of the famous playwright of Romanian origin. The National Theater Festival (FNT), produced by the Theatrical Guild from Romania, proposes this year a dense programme which offers the theater lovers a nine-day marathon.

Besides the presentation of the best performances from the 2008-2009 season, the festival will have as special guest the French company “Les Intempestifs,” which will bring to Bucharest the show “La cantatrice chauve,” as an homage occasioned by Ionesco centennial. Besides performances, FNT 2009 means also related events, such as projection of films about theatrical personalities and their shows, gathered under the heading “Films/Night/Theater = FNT,” from 22.00 h. at “Elvira Popescu” Cinema, launchings of books and magazines every day of the festival, at 16.30 h., at Carturesti book shop, and also discussions and conferences to be held at UNATC and ACT Theater. The daily broadcasting of radio theatrical productions of Eugene Ionescu’s plays will also be present. The National Theater Festival 2009 is organized with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute, the French Institute from Bucharest, the Embassy of France in Bucharest, the Polish Institute, the British Council, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bucharest.
