DGIPI head, PSD’s state secretaries also step down

In sign of solidarity with Social-Democrat ministers’ resignation, the party’s state secretaries in all ministries have also stepped down or are expected to do so the following days. The first to leave were the head of the Interior Ministry’s Internal Protection and Intelligence Department (DGIPI), Gelu Drajneanu, and the Social-Democrat state secretaries with the ministry. Drajneanu, who said he came to the ministry at Dan Nica’s request, will return to practicing law, according to Realitatea TV.

He was replaced with Paun Iordache, who has been working with the intelligence services since 1990.

State secretaries from several ministers have already announced their resignation following PSD’s decision to leave the government. Economy Ministry Secretary of State Lucian Sova said he and his colleague will step down from their positions, as it was decided by the PSD. The same decision was announced by the party’s secretary of state within the Transportation Ministry, Valentin Raducu Preda. In the Labour Ministry, PSD secretaries said they would have a meeting with Marian Sarbu, one of the resigning PSD ministers, to decide on what to do. The two secretaries within the Agriculture Ministry, Liviu Harbuz and Catalin Rosculete, also announced their resignation. PSD leaders also suggested that the string of resignations might continue with prefects and government agency chiefs appointed on their positions by the Social-Democrats. At the same time, PDL leaders across the country asked that Social-Democrats be withdrawn from decentralized institutions and public administration leading posts.
