Weekend marred by car crashes

A person died and two others were injured yesterday in a car crash that took place in the Cernavoda area. According to the police officers, the car crash occurred after a vehicle entered the opposite lane where it collided with a properly driven vehicle. Two other persons died and four others were hospitalized with serious injuries after the cars they were traveling in collided on National Road 65 Pitesti-Slatina, close to Lunca Corbului locality, Arges County. Another car crash took place on Saturday evening in Izvin locality, Timis County. Three persons were hospitalized after the driver lost control of the steering wheel and the car overturned in a road-side ditch. Ambulances immediately took the three persons to hospital. An extrication crew was also needed at the scene. According to the police officers, quoted by Realitatea TV, the injured persons are two Chinese citizens and a young woman from Recas locality. It seems the crash occurred when the driver tried to avoid hitting a dog and collided with a bridgehead. The Romanian Police’s Operational Center announced that 31 car crashes left 12 people dead and 34 injured on Saturday and Sunday. According to the police, drivers were guilty for the crashes in 25 cases, pedestrians in 5 cases and a bicycle rider in one case. On Friday a man lost his life and three young women, members of a volleyball club in Baia Mare, were injured after a vehicle entered the opposite lane where it collided with the minivan in which the athletes were traveling. The car crash took place in Cluj County.
