Dealers: Current car charge radically diverts buyers from new vehicles

Automotive buyers will start looking at the used-car market with much more attention after the car registration charge has been applied to new Euro 4 models with engine capacities smaller than 2 L, said the head of AutoItalia dealerships network Cristi Milea, after the opening of an integrated auto complex in the Colentina district of Bucharest. Mediafax reports that interim Environment Minister Elena Udrea on Tuesday informed that the conclusion of the talks with representatives of the European Commission had been that the suspension of the registration charge applicable to new Euro 4 vehicles could no longer be extended after December 15. Udrea added she did not intend to change the current legislation in the matter of the automotive registration charge. The President of the Automotive Producers and Importers Association (APIA) Ernest Popovici, said that the subject of the car charge had always happened to be brought up at the most inappropriate times’ and said that the current political instability was not good for the automotive industry.

In other developments, AutoItalia who imports the Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Infiniti and SsangYong brands, has invested over EUR 5 M in the new auto complex. Unlike other integrated complexes built by its partners, the one in Colentina has been developed by the importer itself.
