In vitro fertilisation still legal

The order issues by ex-Healthcare Minister Ion Bazac only bans the harvesting of ova from donors for material profit, but not a woman’s right to do in-vitro fertilisation. The minister’s order in fact abrogates a legal article allowing medical establishments to derive economic profit from harvesting eggs from donors. ‘The donation is a not-for-profit act. The new order prohibits medical units from charging money for the procedure. The patient will still have to pay for the medical supplies, but not for the procedure itself, because it would mean that the establishment would be making a profit on it,’ Healthcare Ministry Secretary of State Adrian Streinu Cercel told realitatea.net on Thursday.
