Romania and R. of Moldova hold talks over small border traffic Agreement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced it will hold talks today, in Chisinau, at the level of general director, over the Agreement on small border traffic between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

The move ranges within the wide context of normalizing the relations with R. of Moldova, after the democratic changes that took place in Chisinau, MAE writes in a press release issued Saturday. “We hope the negotiations will have a positive and rapid result. We are aware of the need for achieving concrete steps in the bilateral agenda, able to confirm the best intentions of both sides,” interim Foreign Minister Catalin Predoiu stated, quoted by the release.

On this occasion, MAE reconfirms its continued policy in support of the European agenda set by authorities in Chisinau, writes the source. “In this context, we are pleased to notice the prospect of negotiations between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova in view of concluding a new legal framework of cooperation, which we want at a deeper and more comprehensive level,” adds the release.

Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat on Thursday had a phone talk with Romanian President Traian Basescu, who assured him Romania will make all the approaches necessary to speed up the signing of the small border traffic Agreement.
