American Vice President Joe Biden is due to meet President Traian Basescu, Acting Premier Emil Boc as well as Mircea Geoana and Crin Antonescu, the leader of PSD and PNL respectively, during his visit to Bucharest tomorrow.
Biden is in Poland today and will arrive in Bucharest later in the evening, National Security Advisor Tony Blinken said on Monday, during a briefing on Biden’s visit, according to Mediafax.
Biden will hold a series of meetings with Romanian officials and will take part in a press conference with President Basescu.
From October 20 to October 24 Biden is scheduled to visit Romania, the Czech Republic and Poland, the visits coming a short while after the US dropped its plans to place an anti-missile shield in the Czech Republic and Poland. Biden will particularly evoke the improvement of trade and investment ties, the strengthening of democracy and will tackle common security issues, a White House communiqué points out. The communiqué does not explicitly mention the recent decision taken by the Barack Obama administration to abandon the missile shield project.
