Geoana gains ground, survey shows

For the first time since launching his presidential bid, PSD leader Mircea Geoana was ranked higher than President Traian Basescu in an opinion poll. An INSOMAR survey ordered by Realitatea TV showed Geoana would get 30 per cent of votes in the first round and 54 per cent in the run-off. Basescu would be close behind, with 29 per cent in the first round of voting and 46 per cent in a run-off against the PSD leader. Liberal leader Crin Antonescu would come in third in the first round, with 20 per cent. The poll also shows that Basescu would be defeated in the runoff by any rival.
