Global sales of USD 11.2 bln and operational profit of USD 685 M.
In Q3 2009, LG Electronics global sales, also those made by the subsidiaries of the company, increased by 15.7 per cent, compared to the third quarter of the previous year, reaching USD 11.2 bln. According to a press release, the operational profit reached USD 685 M, which conducted to a profit margin of 6.1 per cent, representing a growth of 1.3 per cent vs. the third quarter of the previous year. The parent company registered sales of USD 6.34 bln, and obtained an operational profit of USD 486 M.
The sales and operational profit above expectations are due to the performances obtained in the LCD TV and mobile phone segment. Thus, Home Entertainment sales increased 23.9 per cent to USD 3.97 bln, the registered profit amounting to USD 205 M, which represents a growth of 4.4 per cent vs. the previous year. Mobile Communications reported sales of USD 3.75 bln, 21.9 per cent more than in the previous year with an operational profit of USD 314 M. Home Appliance registered a growth of 11.9 per cent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching USD 2.03 bln. In Air Conditioning case, the sales dropped 13.4 per cent in the third quarter of the present year against the same period of the previous year, to USD 686 M, as a result of the global recession. Business Solutions company registered a growth of sales of 2.6 per cent, compared to the previous year, reaching USD 973 M, with an operational profit of USD 20 M.
For the fourth quarter 2009, concurrently with the beginning of the season in the TV segment, the company estimates a growth of sales in this segment vs. the same quarter of the previous year. The fall of the prices in the TV and mobile terminal segment, alongside the growth of investments in marketing and market research, will conduct to a low profitability compared to the previous quarter of the year.
