King Mihai turns 88

King Mihai I, turned 88 yesterday. On His Majesty’s anniversary day a gala concert was organized last evening at the Romanian Athenaeum. The concert was offered by the Radio Chamber Orchestra, the collected funds being used to help the talented youth.

King Mihai was born on October 25, 1921, at Sinaia. He is the son of King Carol II and Princess Elena. King Mihai is a member of one of the oldest royal families, Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Mihai became for the first time King of Romania in 1927, after the death of his grandfather King Ferdinand, and further to the renunciation to the throne by King Carol II. But, he was deposed three years later by his father himself.

After the abdication of Carol II, Mihai returned on the throne in 1940 where he stayed until December 1947, when he was forced by the communists to abdicate.
