Average price of kilometer of highway: EUR 3.5-8.5 M

According to a Transport Ministry document signed by Minister Radu Berceanu, the average price of a kilometer of highway ranges from EUR 3.5 M to EUR 8.5 M, depending on the complexity of the highway construction project, Mediafax informs.

42 kilometers will be completed on the Transylvania Highway’s Campia Turzii–Gilau section this year. The section could be opened to traffic after the construction of two junctions. The Bechtel officials stated in June that the junctions might not be completed so that alternative routes will be built in order to temporarily facilitate the opening of the section to traffic.

At the same time, 30 kilometers will be completed on the Bucharest–Ploiesti highway, a highway with a total length of 62 kilometers. Back in April Berceanu stated that the completed highway section will not be opened to traffic this year because it is located between two bridges that will be completed later on. The document also shows that in 2010 the construction works on the Bucharest–Ploiesti and the Transylvania highways will represent the priority.

Thus, the Transport Ministry estimates that 42 kilometers will be opened to traffic on the Bucharest–Ploiesti highway in July 2010 and another 13 in December 2010. Also next year the construction works will be completed on the two sections of the Transylvania highway (with a total length 118 kilometers).
