Fire at footwear factory in Mogosoaia

Ilfov firefighters intervened with eight fire engines.

According to Mediafax, the fire may have started from an improvised heating installation. The factory’s 500 sq m which burned down is located very close to the Mogosoaia municipality building. The fire brigade’s work was made difficult by the inflammable material stored inside the facility. The fire also caused massive local pollution which nonetheless seems not to have reach Bucharest. A thick cloud of smoke was visible from as far as 20 km, and four locals needed medical attention after becoming intoxicated with smoke. Ilfov Police Spokesperson Elena Bucur reported there had been no victims, but an Asian woman suffered a shock and a panic attack, but was assisted by the paramedics. The factory was operated around the clock. It appears that the company has 25 employees, most of whom are Chinese citizens. However, no one was working in the factory when the fire started, but six workers who were living there were on the premises.
