Ilie Nastase and Mansour Bahrami inaugurated four tennis courts at Craiova

The demonstrative match between the former tennis players Ilie Nastase and Mansour Bahrami, scheduled on Friday, at Craiova, on the occasion of the inauguration of several tennis courts built by the municipality, became a mere exchange of balls, without spectators, because of the unfavourable weather.

Scheduled on Friday, at 13.00 h., the demonstrative match took place at 16.00, in Parcul Tineretului from Craiova, but without spectators. Because of the rain, the match was initially cancelled, but the two decided to proceed to a few ball exchanges even on rain and at 5-6 degrees C.

The purpose of the event was the inauguration of the courts organized by the municipality of Craiova for the local population. “It is a pity that we couldn’t inaugurate the courts as we should have done. It should have been a real match. It was not the rain which prevented us, we couldn’t play real tennis, and make a show. I am sorry that the people of Craiova could not come and see Mansour Bahrami live because he is famous for the demonstrations that he makes around the world. I had bet that if he hits me, I gave him 100 Euro,” Ilie Nastase declared. Parcul Tineretului, where the four tennis courts were built, was inaugurated at the end of the past week by President Traian Basescu, the investment of the municipality rising to around EUR 10 M.
