Agrostar refuses to protest alongside farmers

The union of the sheep and goat breeders from Romania and the union of the cattle breeders from Romania, affiliated to “Agrostar” Federation dissociate themselves from the action of picketing Cotroceni Palace, organized by the union of the bull breeders from Romania, the Federation announced in a press release, according to Agerpres. “We consider that the prerogatives of the President of Romania are those established by the Constitution of Romania, and he does not have the power of decision over the granting of subsidies per head of sheep or goat in the amount of RON 44, the decision to grant the subsidy belongs to the Interim Government of Romania and the interim minister of agriculture, not to the President of Romania,” stresses in the press release the president of AGROSTAR, Niculae Stefan.

Moreover, President Traian Basescu declared on Wednesday evening, at Cotroceni Palace, after the consultations with the representatives of the animal breeders, that three banks have signed so far conventions for the funding of the animal breeders, discussions with another two banks being in progress over the conditions in which the funds are granted.

“Presently three banks have signed conventions for the funding of the animal breeders: CEC, BRD, BCR. Discussions are in progress now also with Raiffeisen Bank and Bancpost over the conditions in which the funds are granted to the animal breeders,” President Basescu stressed. He mentioned that it was agreed to pay the difference between the amounts already paid by APIA Agency and the Government of Romania to the animal breeders.
