Serious car crash in Constanta, five killed

A serious car crash occurred on Thursday near Piatra locality, Constanta County. A minibus with passengers onboard collided with a heavy lorry on National Road 22, 40 kilometers outside Constanta. According to the Constanta County Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU), quoted by Mediafax, five people died and four were injured. According to police commissioner Constantin Dancu, the head of the Constanta Traffic Police, the car crash took place in a curve, with the minibus’s driver entering the opposite lane where it collided with the lorry. One woman and four men, including the driver of the minibus, were killed. Four other persons were injured, two of them being hospitalized in a serious condition. Some of the wounded were taken to the Constanta County Hospital. The driver of the lorry was not injured but was nevertheless taken to hospital in a state of shock.

Several units from the Constanta Ambulance Service, two SMURD units and an extrication unit responded at the scene. Traffic on DN 22 Constanta-Tulcea was completely blocked. The area had no alternative routes on which traffic could have been detoured and the police stated that traffic was blocked for several hours.
