Going out this weekend

Sandra performs at Palace Hall tonight

The German diva of the 80’s is not in her first performance in Romania. After enjoying success as lead singer of the disco trio Arabesque, Sandra began performing under her own solo name, releasing her first international #1 hit “(I’ll Never Be) Maria Magdalena” in 1985. She can also be heard on her former husband Michael Cretu’s project Enigma as the “mysterious voice”. Although not having any solo success in the US or UK, Sandra has topped the charts from as far as Sweden, Egypt, France,

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New York

This is an original, offbeat and rewarding cop story with Nicolas Cage in great form. He plays Terence McDonagh- a drug- and gambling-addled detective in post-Katrina New Orleans investigating the killing of five Senegalese immigrants. Director Werner Herzog, like Scorsese, has found a new muse later in life. He made five memorable films with Klaus Kinski, and one can only hope that he will continue to use Cage and keep him away from silly Hollywood blockbusters such as “Knowing.” Cage, in turn, has been reinvigorated by the veteran director, unshackled and unleashed and back to his over-the-top best.
