Geoana appeals to support Severin for office of EU foreign minister

The president of the Social-Democrat Party, Mircea Geoana, appealed yesterday to Head of State, Prime Minister, and interim foreign minister to lobby for the MEP Adrian Severin who is on the list of candidates for the office of EU High Representative for foreign policy. He stressed, according to Agerpres, that further to negotiations this position went to the group of the European Socialists whose member PSD is.

PSD president launched the appeal in the context in which the discussions over the assignment of two of the top three positions in the EU hierarchy begin this week. The three positions mentioned by Mircea Geoana are the following: the position for which Adrian Severin candidates, the post of president of the European Commission, and the position of president of the European Council.

Mircea Geoana voiced his hope that Romania will obtain an important office of European Commissioner, like that on agriculture, and it will not happen again like in 2007 “when, because of the political turmoil, Romania obtained a marginal portfolio.”
