‘Cities, Intersections, Cultures’ exhibition opens in Bucharest

The ‘Cities, Intersections, Cultures’ exhibition of artist Bogdana Contras opened at the Gold Art Gallery and at the Hilton Art Club on Wednesday. Hosted by the Athenee Palace-Hilton Hotel, the exhibition will be open every day in November from 9:00 to 21:00. Bogdana Contras is a graduate of the Bucharest University of Arts, the Painting Department – Professor Vladimir Zamfirescu’s class – and is doing a Master’s programme in the lass of Professor Marin Gherasim. In 2001, she became a member of the Union of Fine Artists of Romania, after which she shortly became a well-known name in the artistic movement of the 2000 generation, on the Romanian and international art market. Since 1996, the artist has been exhibiting in Bucharest, Craiova, Mogosoaia, Sibiu as well as in Berlin and Mainz (Germany), Venice (Italy) and, not least, at the Municipal Art Gallery of Thessalonica (Greece), enjoying a well-deserved success everywhere. In 1998, she came in the third place at the ‘Accents & Prints’ contest exhibition held in Bucharest and in 2006 she left for Salzburg (Austria) on a scholarship offered by the KulturKontakt Foundation. Her paintings can be found in the MNAC collection, as well as in private collections in Italy, France, Canada, Germany and Romania. ‘Cities, Intersections, Cultures’ marks a new imagistic vision as well as a cleansing of used means of expression. The sentimental geography the artist proposes chooses recognizable cultural signs which, once introduced to the artistic image, become symbols.
