Over 650,000 unemployed in Romania

According to the data issued by the National Employment Agency (ANOFM), the unemployment rate of 7.1 per cent registered in October this year was 0.2 per cent higher than the level registered in September and 4 per cent higher than the level registered in October 2008, Agerpres informs. Thus, the total number of registered unemployed persons stood at 653,939, of which 288,556 are women. The Counties whose unemployment rate stood below the national level were the following: Bucharest and Ilfov (2.1 per cent), Timis (4.2 per cent), Constanta (5.2 per cent), Bihor (5.4 per cent), Satu Mare (5.6 per cent), Cluj (5.9 per cent), Maramures (6.1 per cent), Arad (6.3 per cent), Botosani (6.5 per cent) and Vrancea (6.9 per cent).

The highest unemployment rates were registered in Harghita (9.3 per cent), Arges (9 per cent) and Buzau (8.9 per cent), while lower percentages that nevertheless surpassed the national level were registered in Mures and Neamt (7.4 per cent), Suceava (7.3 per cent), Braila and Mures (7.2 per cent).
