PM makes payments to mayors who support president

PSD, PNL, PNG or PRM mayors who support Basescu are among the beneficiaries of the money allotted through governmental resolution to the local administrations. Dismissed through censure motion, Boc Cabinet does not surrender before rewarding, with what is left of the budget, the mayors who campaign for candidate Traian Basescu. Through governmental resolution 1255/2009, issued two days before the beginning of the campaign and published in Monitorul Oficial, the Executive headed by Emil Boc has taken RON 100 M – around EUR 23 M – from the reserve fund of the Government in order to direct them towards city halls for “current and capital expenditures.”

The sums are not big – from RON 11,000 to RON 480,000 – but they cover most of the towns and communes, especially if they are managed by PDL. The city halls headed by PSD, PNL, PNG or PRM mayors, who have publicly announced in the recent period their support for Basescu, to the detriment of the candidate from their own party, are also on the list of city halls budgeted in the campaign. Thus, among the “traitors” to whom the Government has showed a proof of generosity after their shifting into Basescu’s camp we find Vlad Oprea, PNL mayor of Sinaia, who received RON 60,000. Among those attracted by Gheorghe Flutur at Suceava, six PSD mayors – from Dolhasca, Adancata, Malini, Patrauti, Putna, Radaseni – have rounded off their budget by RON 30,000 to 80,000.
