Discipline problems again at the national team

Razvan Lucescu, coach of the national football team, declared that the player Cristian Sapunaru (photo) could be excluded from the national team, after he got intoxicated and hit a journalist on Henri Coanda airport, on his return from the friendly match against Poland in Warsaw. “It is annoying for me, I must say stop, it cannot work any longer like that. Also in Paris he had a dispute with a journalist. He may not be called again at the national team!” Razvan Lucescu declared on the channel GSP TV.

After Adrian Mutu and Adrian Cristea authored several indiscipline actions at the latest matches from the preliminaries, the FC Porto player, actually one of the favourites of coach Lucescu, also had problems.

According to the daily ‘Evenimentul Zilei,’ the player Sapunaru has allegedly drank alcoholic beverages in big quantities in the aircraft which brought the national team to Romania, and, on “Henri Coanda” airport, heated by the beverage, he pushed and swore at a cameramen from Antena 1. The persons from the national team staff, who were still in the airport at the time of the scandal, tried to calm down the footballer. The first who intervened was Marian Ionita, coach of the goalkeepers, but without success, the same as the second coach Stefan Iovan.

“We discussed a little with him after the incident. I don’t know how it started, but he swore at several representatives of the media. We were near him and we tried to stop him, calm him. But because of this he started quarreling also with us,” Stefan Iovan said, quoted by ‘Evenimentul Zilei.’

Victor Becali, the agent of the FC Porto player, defended him, the same as he did with Mutu and Cristea: “What if Sapunaru drank on the aircraft? There are persons who are afraid of the aircraft and they drink! Cristi is not a violent guy. I don’t agree with what Sapunaru did, but he cannot just be eliminated from the team,” Victor Becali said for GSP TV.
