Romania’s demography on the rise

Romania’s population increased in September 2009, when a natural increase has been registered, the National Statistics Institute (INS) reports. A total 21,456 babies were born in September (12.2 live newborns at 1,000 inhabitants), 579 more than in August. On the other hand, the number of people who died in September stood at 18,707 (10.6 deceased for every 1,000 inhabitants), 90 less than in August.

The surplus of live newborns compared to the number of deceased – a natural increase – determined the population increase in September by 2,749 people, INS explains.

In September, local authorities reported 18,021 marriages (10.2 marriages for 1,000 people), 6,715 less compared to the previous months, while courts pronounced 2,131 divorces (1.21 divorces for 1,000 people), 605 less than in August.
