Over 120,000 companies folded operations in 2009

A number of 120,509 companies suspended their operations in the first ten months of year 2009, according to data provided by the National Trade Register Office ONRC) The number of voluntary company closings is up 444 per cent, or 16,239 companies, against the year-earlier figure of 2983. Voluntary company dissolution was highest, 12,200 per cent in the field of administrative and support services, followed by health and social assistance companies (4,700 per cent), show business, cultural and recreational activities (3,500 per cent), professional, scientific and technical activities (2,000 per cent), retail and wholesale (1,746 per cent), transport and warehousing (1,520 per cent), constructions (1,514 per cent) and others.

The number of voluntary January-October nationwide radiations this year rose 169 per cent, to 35,767, from 13,295 in the corresponding interval last year, ONRC reports.

The data should be related to the number of active commercial enterprises, which equaled 1,038,221 on October 31, of which 188,782 companies were Bucharest-based, or 18.2 per cent of the overall number.
