Parties step up campaign on the internet

The campaign for this year’s presidentials was different from previous elections also in terms of sending messages and criticism over the internet, as candidates and their teams maximized the use of their web sites and blogs, in order to make themselves better heard. Of late, a new campaign job has been invented: internet poster – someone hired by a party to post on the internet messages against rival candidates. An undercover reporter of Romania Libera newspaper joined the team of PNL political posters, whose mission is to “destroy” the articles and comments against Antonescu. Similar teams are working for Basescu and Geoana. “For two weeks, I was a party poster. Each day I received e-mails from the party consultants, with messages against the other candidates and lists with tens of internet addresses where I had to post them. I went on blogs, forums and newspaper sites, I spoke about common sense and I swore at the <> and <>” the journalist recollects in a newspaper story.
