90 years of Electrolux


Yesterday, Electrolux Romania organized a ceremony celebrating 90 years since it had manufactured the world’s first home vacuum cleaner. Electrolux Romania Marketing Director Carmen Georgescu presented to the audience the history of the company in that field, going back to 1920-1940 when it started making some of its home cleaners. The Electrolux Group is one of the world’s largest home and professional appliance manufacturers reporting annual sales of dozens of millions of items to customers in more than 150 different countries. The company focuses on innovation starting from a deep knowledge of actual consumer’s needs. Electrolux makes refrigerating equipment, dish washers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and cookers that are sold under reputed trademarks such as Electrolux, AEG-Electrolux, Eureka or Frigidaire. Since 12 years ago, Electrolux has been making a very wide and reliable range of cookers in Satu Mare, Romania, the goods being marketed everywhere in Europe.


Carpatair adds 3 Fokker 70 aircraft to fleet


Timisoara-based full-service air carrier Carpatair has signed the agreement for the purchase of three 72 seat Fokker 70 jet airliners. The first aircraft of the contracted series will be delivered in December 2009, and the remaining two in February and March of 2010. The plane has 72 seats – 12 business class (C) and 60 economy (Y). The biggest Fokker 70 operators in Europe are KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Austrian Airlines. ‘The procurement of the new Fokker 70 airliners gives us the opportunity of accessing new markets and routes where the capacity of out Fokker 100 plane is too large. In addition, the operation of the Fokker 70 aircraft will enable us to cut operating costs for selected routes by up to 20 per cent. In the 2009 winter time-table, the new planes will be operated on existing routes, but in March-April 2010 we will launch new routes to be exclusively served by the Fokker 70 aircraft’, Carpatair President and CEO Nicolae Petrov stated. Carpatair is the largest regional airline in South-Eastern Europe (primarily operating on regional niche markets), Further to the successful implementation of the ‘hub&spoke’ concept (air transport hub giving the passengers connecting flight options covering the entire network of destinations of an operator), Carpatair has managed to develop at Timisoara the best-performing air hub in Romania.Currently, Carpatair operates over 250 regular flights every week, to 30 destinations in a total of six countries. Carpatair is the largest air operator for the Romania – Italy connection, offering the largest number of destinations in either country – 10 in each –, with the best frequency: 94 flights per week. Carpatair owns a fleet made up of 15 50-seat Saab 2000 and 105-seat Fokker 100 airliners, as well as the three newly acquired F70 planes. Since December 2009, Carpatair has expanded its supply in Bucharest by launching two new direct flights: to Bari and Ancona (Italy); on December 7, 2009, it will open direct Venice-Budapest services in code share partnership with Malev Hungarian Airlines.


Ten models compete for the
“Car of the year 2010 in Romania”



Ten models belonging to the world’s most important car makers have been selected in the national contest “Car of the year 2010 in Romania.” The list of finalists features Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i20, Kia Soul, Mazda3, Opel Astra, Peugeot 206 plus, Renault Fluence, Toyota Avensis and Volkswagen Polo. They were selected, from a pool of 40 eligible models, by a jury of Romanian journalists specialized in the car industry.The winner’s name will be announced before winter holidays, after jury members complete a new session of tests in December. The first edition of the “Car of the year” competition was won, in 1999, by Ford Focus, which subsequently became the best sold model around the world, on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2008, the winner was Dacia Sandero, while Fiat and Ford lead the top with two victories each, in the 11 years since the “Car of the year” contest started in Romania.
