The first Romanian megaplex theatre to operate in IMAX technology will open for viewers as of today. The biggest cinema center in Romania will be accessible in the newly opened AFI Palace Cotroceni. The new megaplex includes 21 movie screens, with 4,300 seats, of which 17 are conventional theatres, 3 are VIP screening rooms of 30 to 50 seats and one theatre, with 400 seats performs in IMAX. The IMAX screen is the biggest in the industry, ten times heavier and bigger than a standard screen, of a 37 meters height, approximately half the size of a football field. The three VIP rooms with leather seats and free no-limit buffet.
Thus, in the Bucharest megaplex one of the biggest picture projectors in the world will operate, a piece of machinery weighing over one tonne, with dimensions much over the normal size of a normal digital projector. On December 18, the IMAX theatre will show in world premiere the anticipated film by James Cameron, Avatar, in one of its few IMAX copies.
