Moldova PM asks Romania to step up enforcement of cross border traffic deal

President Traian Basescu and Moldova PM Vlad Filat (photo) spoke on the phone, on Saturday, about the implementation of the Agreement on small-scale cross-border traffic and about the opening of a Moldovan consulate in Iasi. According to a press release posted to the website of the Government in Chisinau, quoted by Mediafax, ‘the two officials had a short exchange of views on the state of play of the bilateral relation following the recent working visit of the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Moldova’. ‘Vlad Filat and Traian Basescu talked about the progress made in implementing the agreements reached during his visit, especially with regard to stepping up the enforcement of the small-scale cross-border traffic agreement. The Moldovan premier told the Romanian President that, on November 18, the Moldovan Government had approved a resolution on the completion of the relevant domestic procedures’, reads the press release. ‘We will be grateful to you if the Romanian party to the agreement finalises internal procedures as well, which will enable us to achieve a full operational implementation of the instrument’, the head of the Moldovan Government said. Another topic raised during the telephone discussion of the two officials was the forthcoming opening by Romania of consulates in Cahill and Bali and by R. Moldova of a consulate in Easy.

The officials pleaded for the opening of the Radauti-Lipcani bridge as soon as possible. ‘Vlad Filat and Traian Basescu committed themselves to keeping the bilateral dialogue permanently and constructively open’
