Ponta: Parties will nominate ministers, Johannis will be allowed to veto

PSD vice-president Victor Ponta gave assurance last Thursday, on Realitatea TV, that if Mircea Geoana is elected president, Klaus Johannis will become premier, parties will nominate the ministers and Johannis will be allowed to veto them. According to the same source, the variant of a technocratic government did exist before the presidential elections, but now the ministers will be appointed on political basis.

Victor Ponta’s statement was preceded by quotes from an interview granted by Klaus Johannis to German magazine Die Welt. “Traian Basescu did not want me because he wished for a prime minister who would have allowed him to control things in his favour,” the Sibiu mayor said in the interview, quoted by Hotnews.

On the same occasion, Johannis declared that, when he was proposed as premier, in October, “there was an emergency situation,” and a technocratic cabinet was proposed, while now, after the elections, he would rather see a political government in place. “When I was proposed by the two parties, in October, there was an emergency situation. At that moment, I was proposed to lead a technocratic cabinet. Now, after the elections, I would rather see a political government, and a political premier would be a normal solution. And I am not that person,” Klaus Johannis added.
