The number of tourists who chose Romania for their holidays fell in October compared to the same period of 2008, both in terms of arrivals (14.9 percent), and accommodation of minimum one night, according to the provisional data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Agerpres informs. Thus, a total of 504,800 persons (75.4 percent of the total arrivals) arrived in Romania in October 2009, vs. October 2008, when 593,000 persons were registered. The nights registered in the tourism structures in October totaled 1,374,100 persons, down 16.3 percent against the same month of 2008. Moreover, the nights spent by the Romanian tourists in the tourism structures represented in the analyzed period 81.2 percent of the total, while the foreign tourists represented 18.8 percent. According to the quoted source, compared to the first ten months of the previous year, the arrivals of foreign visitors at the border check points registered a fall in October 2008 (minus 14.3 percent), the same as the departures of Romanian visitors abroad at the check points (minus 16.5 percent).
