GfK: 62 pc of Romanians use internet for news

According to a GfK Romania communiqué remitted to the editorial office, 62 percent of the Romanians that surf on the internet are using the Google search engine. According to the authors of the study, age is one of the most important criteria that determine the Romanian internet users’ points of interest. Thus, the general result obtained by GfK after interviewing a number of 338 Romanian internet users is that 62 percent of them use Google for research, 58 percent use the internet for e-mail messaging, while 55 percent use it for news.

However, if the age of those interviewed drops below 25 then listening to music and downloading songs will be on first place (49 percent of the respondents), with reading the news being on second place (42 percent of the respondents). In fact, reading the news is among the priorities for most of the age groups. 72 percent of the persons belonging to the 35-55 age group consider that reading the news is the most important activity on the internet, in contrast to 54 percent of those belonging to the 25-35 age group and 42 percent of those younger than 25. For the persons younger than 34, watching movies or TV programs on the internet is among their top three priorities.
