Basescu appeals to reconciliation pending Constitutional Court decision

Liberal leadership reconfirms full support to Crin Antonescu who excludes all collaboration with PDL and Traian Basescu.

The Social Democrat Party yesterday submitted evidence to the Constitutional Court in support of the election fraud complained they had filed a day before, asking that the court cancel the runoff.

Most of the evidence submitted by the PSD refers to cases of election bribe, modified recordings of proceedings, inexistent voter personal numbers, multiple voting, election tourism and even cases of deceased people who appear on voting lists.

BEC rejected a request from the election bureau in charge of Diaspora ballot stations (BESVS) to recount the number of ballots from abroad, but gave no explanation for the decision,

A Diaspora vote recount request was also submitted by the PSD, amid press reports that many Romanians living abroad witnesses fraud attempts.

Traian Basescu appealed to national reconciliation from Cotroceni Palace. He admitted PSD’s move to contest the elections is legal, constitutional and democratic.

Meanwhile, Democrat Liberals invitation to talks on next government was turned down by PNL. Liberals are still waiting the decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the elections’ validation.

n Crin Antonescu announced yesterday that PNL unanimously gave him a confidence vote to decide the direction the party will take.

Despite Antonecu’s commitment to leave out any collaboration with Traian Basescu and PDL, former PNL president and PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu reaffirmed last night that PNL should act according to the reality if Basescu stays five more years at Cotroceni.

As a coincidence, fraud allegations re-emerged surrounding European Parliament elections, which were held on June 7 this year. Police said yesterday they would probe 9,959 possible cases of multiple voting in the election, based on information received from the Permanent Election Authority (AEP). The authorities are already investigating 1,310 cases of multiple voting in the EP elections, the police said in a press release.
