PepsiCo drops Tiger Woods drink

SOFT drink giant PepsiCo Inc. is dropping a brand named after Tiger Woods from its lineup, and television ads featuring the golfer haven’t been aired since a storm of publicity erupted over his car accident last month and subsequent revelations about alleged extramarital affairs. PepsiCo said the move to drop its Gatorade Tiger Focus sports drink is part of a broader overhaul that has been in the works for months, and is not connected with the golfer’s recent troubles.

Advertisers haven’t aired TV commercials featuring Woods since the scandal broke, according to media monitor Nielsen Co.

Gillette ran a TV spot including Woods on November 29, but it was the only ad featuring him during the month, Nielsen said.

It isn’t clear what, if any, other commercials featuring Woods might have been in the works or slated for broadcast.

However Gillette, a unit of Procter & Gamble, said it had not pulled any ads and was running its media schedule as planned.
