Basescu’s staff denies compromising tape on Geoana

After Horia Roman Patapievici told Spanish daily La Vanguardia that Traian Basescu received a tape showing Mircea Geoana having oral sex, Basescu’s staff denied the existence of such a video. Patapievici, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute, an institution under the patronage of the president said that Basescu refused to make public the tape, which shows ‘he is an honest man’.

The chief of PDL electoral campaign Gheorghe Flutur, declared last Friday that the Democrat-Liberal campaign staff “did not have any tape”, stressing that PDL “was not interested by a negative campaign.” Sever Voinescu, Basescu’s campaign spokesman said that the staff has never had a tape such as presented by La Vanguardia. President Basescu’s spokesman, Valeriu Turcan also denied the existence of such a tape.

PSD president Mircea Geoana accused Patapievici of “dealing with dirt,” calling the subject of the tape “an awful lie.” PSD secretary general Liviu Dragnea also said that “this is the cultural level” of ICR president, mentioning that if he has such a cassette he should publish it.
