BNR releases new anniversary coin

The National Bank of Romania will issue on December 16, 2009, for coin collectors, a silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 300 years since the birth of Bishop Petru Pavel Aron, according to a BNR press release. The coin is made of silver and has a nominal value of RON 10, it is round shaped with milled edge, has 37 millimeters in diameter, and weighs 31.103 grams. The coin was issued in 500 pieces. The selling price is RON 180, plus VAT. The price does not include the equivalent of the presentation box.

The observe of the coin presents the Trinity Cathedral from Blaj, in the middle, with the buildings of the theological seminar and the community school, set up by Petru Pavel Aron, the inscription ROMANIA, the nominal value, the arms of Romania and the issue year 2009 around, while at the bottom there is an epoch image representing a teacher who speaks to a group of pupils. The reverse face presents the portrait of Bishop Petru Pavel Aron, his coat of arms, and the inscriptions 1709 and 1764, while on the left there is the arc-shaped inscription “PETRU PAVEL ARON.”
