League I: Vital win for Steaua

Steaua has won its game against International Curtea de Arges on Sunday evening, score 3-2, and has 34 points in the standings in a tie with league leaders CFR Cluj. The game counted for the last leg before the midseason break. Steaua’s goals were scored by Nicolita (4th minute), Kapetanos (14th minute, penalty kick) and Tanase (72nd minute). The visitors’ goals were scored by Bacila (21st minute) and Zagrean (64th minute).

The goal scored by Cristi Tanase, who was bought from FC Arges last summer, was his first for Steaua and it basically meant three points for the team.

‘The important thing was not Cristi Tanase’s goal, although it brought us the three points, but the attitude. He should always play like he did today. I am convinced that he wants to change after the latest discussions. Everyone wants what’s good for him and he has to draw the essence from all the criticism and advices that he recently received,’ Steaua’s head coach Mihai Stoichita (photo) stated for GSP TV.

Steaua’s eternal rivals Dinamo Bucharest however continue to have problems. Dinamo has finished its first half of the season with a draw, 1-1 against Marius Lacatus’s FC Vaslui. Dinamo has thus dropped on 8th place in the league standings. Wesley opened the score for FC Vaslui in the 49th minute, but N’Doye equalized from a penalty kick in the 58th minute. FC Vaslui’s goalkeeper Kuciak saved his team from defeat more than once.

‘I am displeased with my players’ lack of focus. Although we controlled the game at one point, towards the end what happened to us in Ghencea was close to a repeat. There’s too much superficiality, that is why we miss. It was not a revenge against Talnar (Dinamo’s head coach – editor’s note), a coach that snatched the title away from me two years ago, we simply wanted to win the most from this game. But we weren’t able to do so. We will fight to the end in order to finish the season on a place that would qualify us for the European competition,’ Marius Lacatus, the head coach of FC Vaslui, stated for GSP TV after the game.

In its turn, FC Timisoara finished the first half of the season with a defeat (the second this season). FC Timisoara lost to FC Brasov, score 0-1. The result keeps FC Brasov close to the top of the hierarchy, while FC Timisoara continues to be three places behind league leaders CFR Cluj.

FC Urziceni vs. Poli Iasi, the last game of the leg that closes the first half of the season took place on Monday evening after the closing of this edition.
