President Basescu to visit R. Moldova

President Traian Basescu confirmed the official visit to Chisinau in the second half of January, jurnaltv.md reports, quoting the interim President of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, who stressed that he had a phone discussion with the Head of the Romanian state. This will be the first meeting between the two Heads of State, with Mihai Ghimpu as President. Ghimpu sent, on December 2009, to Basescu, the invitation to pay an official visit to Chisinau, when they would approach Romania’s support for Moldova’s objective to adhere to EU. In Bucharest, a possible visit of President Traian Basescu to Chisinau in January has not been confirmed yet. However, the Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi declared yesterday that he will hopefully pay a visit to the R. Moldova at the end of this month, adding that until then he wants to propose a new ambassador of Romania to Chisianu.
