Iliescu: 2010 will mark a ‘turning point’ for PSD

The honourary president of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD), Ion Iliescu told Realitatea FM yesterday that 2010 will mark a ‘turning point’ for his party, in view of the upcoming congress in which the organisation will have to analyse its activity in the opposition, for the last five years.Iliescu added that having lost the presidential election by a very slim margin, PSD has practically become the main opposition party on the political stage and this situation has to be carefully analysed. When asked whether 2010 will be a crisis year for the party, Iliescu answered negatively, admitting however that this year, PSD will have to make some major decisions. The former president did not specify whether he thinks the party needs new leaders, saying that this is only a “secondary topic.”
