INS: Auto sector turnover lost 27.5 pc in November

The turnover of the retail trade with motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased in November 2009, against the same month of 2008, by 27.5 pc in gross terms, and by 30.1 pc in terms adjusted to the number of working days, the National Statistics Institute (INS) announces, quoted by Mediafax. The decline registered in November was caused by lower figures in the retailing of cars, by 30.7 pc in gross series and by 33.2 pc based on working days. The activity of market services provided to population, in November 2009, compared to November 2008, also suffered from a turnover decline, by 19 pc in gross figures and by 19.1 pc based on working days, mainly determined by the activity of tourism companies and tour operators (-61.2 pc and -57.4 pc, respectively). Against the previous month, the turnover of the wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 6.3 pc in gross terms and by 2.5 pc based on working days. The decline resulted from the trade with motorcycles, spare parts and accessories; the maintenance and repairing of motorcycles (-24.4 pc) and the trading of motor vehicles (-8.7 pc). Market services provided to population last November fell by 10.4 pc against the previous month, with the most significant decline being reported by hotels, restaurants and tour operators (-15.8 pc and -9.5 pc respectively). In adjusted series, the servicing sector had a turnover diminished by 3.9 pc during January-November last year. The volume of wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repairing of motor vehicles and motorcycles dwindled by 38.4 pc in gross series and by 37.3 pc adjusted with the number of working days, with the main responsible being the commerce with motor vehicles (-45.7 pc and -45.2 pc, respectively). The turnover of market services provided to population during January-November 2009 fell by 16.3 pc in gross figures and by 14.4 pc in terms adjusted with the number of working days and seasonality.
