EU president in Romania today

The president of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, will make his first official visit to Romania on Monday, according to a press release from the presidential administration.

During the visit, van Rompuy will meet President Traian Basescu, the release said.

“The meeting will be an opportunity for discussions on topics of great current interest on the European agenda, such as the economic situation of European Union member states, the main issues on the agenda of the upcoming informal meeting of EU heads of government and presidents (Brussels, February 11) and the spring European Council (Brussels, March 25-26), but also on how the new permanent presidency of the European Council must work,” the press release reads.

During the talks, President Basescu will also inform the head of the European Council of Romania’s priorities as regards European affairs.
