French woman to compete for Romania to EC

Romania will be represented at the European Figure Skating Championships by Zoltan Kelemen and by French-born Sabina Paquier (16). Paquier represented France until 2007 when she decided to come and compete for Romania, Realitatea.net informs.

Paquier has a passion for horse riding and she took part in skating competitions in Istanbul (finished 26th) and Budapest (finished 21st) this year, skating on the music of the ‘Alexander the Great’ film and on Nightwish’s ‘Eve’ song. Sabina Paquier was France’s champion at the age of 14 and has won various competitions. Cornelia, her mother, was Romania’s figure skating champion in 1978.

On the other hand, for Kelemen (23) the European Championships are a final rehearsal for the Winter Olympics where he will participate for the first time. His results are impressing, especially since the skater competes with a serious handicap compared to other skaters, having lost an eye in an accident 17 years ago.

The men’s event will open the competition in Tallin today, with its final set to take place on Thursday.

The women’s event will start on Friday morning, with the winners of the medals set to be decided on Saturday.
