Minister Borbely: Final decision in Rosia Montana case belongs to Government

In an interview to the daily ‘Adevarul,’ the Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely says that it is beneficial to discuss within CSAT the project of the exploitation of gold from Rosia Montana, but the final decision and the responsibility will belong to the Executive. “If all the provisions are fulfilled in order to convince me, the environment minister, that there won’t be 101 per cent pollution, if the project complies with the European legislation, I have nothing to say. For the tome being, I don’t see all these guarantees,” the minister declared.

He says that this Government, “at least PDL,” has a bigger wish to give a positive answer to Rosia Montana project. “They have also the Ministry of Economy, and Mr. Videanu had a point of view. Now, I analyze the environment component, and I shall analyze also the economic component. For the time being I didn’t have time to see how advantageous the economic component is,” the UDMR representative said. “I say that it is very well that the President declared that the problem will be discussed also by the Supreme Defence Council (CSAT). I say again, the decision is made at the level of Sibiu Environment Agency and at the level of the Government. But it is a very good thing that it is discussed also within CSAT,” he added.
