Liberal MEP’s wealth statement questioned

The National Integrity Agency (ANI) requested on Thursday the prosecutors of the Supreme Court to investigate the Liberal Deputy Mihaita Calimente for possible forgery in the wealth statement, since he declared more money than he actually has and forgot to write that he sold a car. ANI announces that it took action further to an article published in a weekly ten months ago, on March 11, 2009. In the article the journalists wrote that Mihaita Calimente “has allegedly not observed the legal provisions regarding the filling up and submission of the wealth and interest statements,” ANI representatives wrote in a press release on Thursday. Further to verifications, the integrity inspectors found several inadvertences between the data mentioned in the wealth statement of the Deputy for the fiscal year 2008, submitted in June 2009, and reality. Thus, according to ANI, Calimente omitted to mention that in January 2009 he sold a Renault car, but the inspectors say that several data which appear in his wealth statement “refer to certain banking deposits with availabilities in excess of those actually held or to non-existent banking deposits.”
