AH1N1 makes fresh victims

A 51 year old man has died in Sibiu, after six weeks spent in a coma, as a result of swine flu infection. The man was admitted to hospital on December 28 and has been under mechanical ventilation, without any response to antiviral medication. The Clinical Emergency Hospital in Sibiu had another serious infection case under admission, a 39 year old man who had been under intensive care for 4 weeks, before improving his condition yesterday. The 51 year old man was the second death in Sibiu, following swine flu outbreak. The number of infected people in the city has reached 128.

Meanwhile, in Arad County a 30 year old woman was admitted to hospital following severe side effects from the anti-flu vaccine. A spokesperson from Public Health Centre Arad said the woman had been inoculated two weeks ago, with the first side effects appearing within a few days, but the woman was receiving medication at home.

“Her reaction to the vaccine was unusual, to say the least, she has been having severe pain at the level of limbs, she also presented fever, the first treatment she received was also against convulsion,” Dr. Dana Negru, epidemiology director said.
