Hagi and Popescu played in charity game for Haiti in Lisbon

Romania’s former international players Gheorghe Hagi and Gheorghe Popescu have played in Lisbon’s Da Luz stadium on Monday evening in a game against poverty, a charity event that has reached its seventh edition.

The revenues obtained will be used to help out the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Hagi and Popescu were part of the ‘Friends of Zidane’ team that drew against Benfica All Stars, score 3-3. Gheorghe Popescu entered the pitch in the 32nd minute, replacing Kaka.

Hagi entered the pitch in the 54th minute, replacing Zinedine Zidane. Hagi was replaced in the 71st minute. Kaka (15th minute), Pires (53rd minute) and Bhutia (85th minute) scored for ‘Friends of Zidane,’ while Nuno Gomes (17th and 22nd minutes) and Eder Luis (60th minute) scored for Benfica All Stars. Jorge Jesus was on the substitute bench of Benfica All Stars. The first half was refereed by Pierluigi Collina, with Pedro Proenca taking over in the second half.

In the 82nd minute a fan entered the pitch, raced towards Benfica’s Sheu and gave him a scarf. The young man was chased by the security forces that caught him and took him off the pitch.

There were 51,312 fans in the stands. A minute of silence was observed before the start of the game in the memory of the victims of the January 12 earthquake. Benfica’s legendary player Eusebio (68) gave the opening kick.
